Mahogany Candy Box

The Candy Box
My wife wanted a nice box to store the candy I insisted on being easily accessible in the kitchen instead of sitting out in a bowl.
The Wood
I used two inch thick mahogany stock for the sides. This extra thickness allowed me to put some nice curves in the walls of the box. For the top of the box I used some lacewood and topped it off with a zebrawood handle.
The Joinery
For the joinery of the box, I used a traditional box joint to give the corners some character on top of the sweeping curves.
The lid just sets on top of the box and is kept from sliding off by a rabbeted edge.
The Finish
To finish the box, I used de-waxed shellac and buffed it with the wood butter. I wanted to use a food safe finish given the fact it is a candy box after all.
Prior to applying the finish I applied a pore sealer to get the end result to be extra smooth.
